City of Norwalk & consultant TPUDC to present “Zoning Regulations Update” on July 29th at 6pm

Please join the Community Kick-Off event for the Norwalk Building Zone Regulations Update Project. An overview of the process and a discussion of the City’s long-term vision will be provided with Q&A to follow. This event will be held virtually via Zoom.

What is the Norwalk Building Zone Regulations Update all about?

The City of Norwalk, with assistance from consultant Town Planning & Urban Design Collaborative (TPUDC), has kicked off a new project: “Norwalk Building Zone Regulations Update”. The goal of this effort is to update and simplify the existing Building Zone Regulations (also referred to as the “zoning regulations” or “regulations”).

Why is the City updating the existing Zoning Regulations?

In 2019, the City completed the Norwalk Citywide Plan 2019-2029 Plan of Conservation and Development, which is the guidance document for future growth and development within the City. One of the major recommendations within the plan is the need to update the zoning regulations.

The zoning regulations have not seen a complete overhaul in over thirty (30) years! This has resulted in piecemeal changes and has led to structural deficiencies and inconsistencies throughout the document. The final result of this overhaul will be a document that is understandable and implementable, and that helps the community achieve the goals set forth in the Citywide Plan.

Why should you be involved?

The zoning regulations provide the rules regarding how land can be used within the City. As the City looks to update those regulations, they want to engage with you in a conversation about the future of Norwalk.

Don’t know much about zoning? That’s ok! Zoning affects the entire community, and through this process, they’ll help you understand why. All of the events held as part of this process are open to the public, and are a great way to learn more AND make sure your voice is heard!
