Last meeting: Regular monthly EANA meeting was held on Sunday, March 23 at 3:30 PM at 20 Raymond Terrace

The Norwalk Preservation Trust held its first meeting on March 2 at the Mill Hill town house. EANA members present and supportive of this new group in its plan to preserve and protect the significant and historic structures of Norwalk. | |

EANA president, Laurel Lindstrom, received 'unsung hero' award at the annual Red Cross awards breakfast on March 3. Formation of the East Avenue Neighborhood Association was an accomplishment read by the presenter at the podium before the award was presented. | |

EANA following condominium development on the Norwalk River at back of 134 East Avenue. Owners' request for a 'Special permit' was to go to Zoning Commission public hearing on March 19 but has been postponed by the developers after representatives from the Land Trust, the Sierra Club and EANA met with them on March 17. |

Discussion and update regarding 134 East Avenue proposed 17-unit condominium development on the Norwalk Harbor and also the proposed rowing club/condominium 57-unit development on Smith Street off East Avenue on the Norwalk Harbor. Both will go to public hearing of the Zoning Commission -- probably on April 23. Environmental and traffic concerns discussed. | |

Discussion regarding variance requested for business sign at 156 East Avenue to go to ZBA public hearing on March 27. EANA opposed to the variance being granted as proposed (a request for zero setback and the large size of the sign requested) | |

City Scans done by EANA members on our streets last year were discussed. Some items the city is not responsible for, some have been resolved and some are yet to be resolved in the spring. EANA president will meet with City Scan coordinator this week to discuss unresolved items. | |

East Avenue Village district designation approval to be signed by mayor. Discussion on the next step when the Zoning Commission fine-tunes the specifics of the regulations. A public hearing will be scheduled. | |

Discussion on the Third Taxing District Commission Annual meeting that was held on March 12. Concerns voiced about the inability of the East Norwalk Improvement Association (ENIA) to adequately account for the money it has spent or the money it takes in. Minimal use of the library was also discussed. EANA president indicated that she had just been accepted on the board of ENIA and has requested to be on its Finance Committee. | |

Report given on Mayor's Neighborhood Preservation Committee of March 5. Discussion on 89B Strawberry Hill Avenue contractor's yard violations and where the zoning commission is at. The mayor has offered to come to an EANA meeting to meet with neighbors if invited to do so. | |

Capital Budget Public Hearing of the Planning Committee of the Common Council will be at 7:30 PM on April 3 in the Community Room of City Hall. Traffic Calming request by the DPW is for $100,000 again this year. Discussion on speed bumps. Calls will be made to the DPW regarding funded speed bumps on Raymond Terrace and Myrtle Street as to when the bumps will go in. The plan, as of last fall, was for the bumps to be placed when the asphalt plants open in the spring. | |

Discussion on speeding on Winfield Street and what can be done there since speed bumps cannot be installed. | |
