Actions update since January 26 meeting
| EANA presented to the Mayor's Neighborhood Preservation Committee on Feb. 5 regarding the expansion at the contractor's yard at 89B Strawberry Hill Avenue. At the meeting Mayor Knopp indicated that the committee may not be able to address the concerns because they went before the ZBA and the ZBA had made its decision. After the meeting the mayor came over to EANA president, saying that he would see what he could do. | |
| Full Council on Feb. 11 voted for East Avenue Village district designation for area from I-95 north to Rte. 1 | |
| Two multi-family condominium developments planned on the east bank of the Norwalk River are currently before the Zoning Commission. Public hearings yet to be scheduled. |
Key items discussed at February 23 meeting
| Review of zoning complaints by neighbors and status of complaints to office of zoning inspector. Cars parked on front lawn and sidewalk of property on Myrtle Street continues. Deputy zoning inspector notified last week by EANA. Cars with 'for sale' signs displayed continue to appear at real estate office on corner of East Avenue and Olmstead Place. The car on the front lawn that was present a week ago has been removed following complaints from EANA members to the deputy zoning inspector. Since problem keeps reoccurring the concern will be taken by her to the city law department to see if further action can be taken by the city. | |
| Update regarding status of 89B Strawberry Hill property regarding city's involvement. Lengthy discussion regarding further steps that EANA can take to assist the neighbors with their concerns. | |
| Update and discussion regarding the East Avenue Village District designation and the process still to come as the regulations are fine-tuned by the Zoning Commission. The mayor has yet to sign the approval by the Common Council. Then it goes to the zoning commission. The zoning commission will hold public hearings, as did the planning commission and the common council. | |
| Discussion on the annual meeting of the electors of the third taxing district scheduled for March 5 at 7 PM at Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish on East Ave. Once again East Norwalk residents can cast a vote regarding budgeting of the East Norwalk library renovations. | |
| Discussion regarding proposed condominiums on the east bank of the Norwalk Harbor along East Avenue. Public Hearings before the zoning commission scheduled for March 19 and April 23. | |
| Update regarding city's capital budget for fiscal year July 2003 through June 2004. Planning Commission held a public hearing on Feb 4. EANA president spoke in favor of full funding ($100,000) for traffic calming. The planning commission recommended $50,000 because $80,000 earmarked for traffic calming remains from last year. Discussion regarding contacting the streets that have requests for speed bumps to inform them of the status of the budget. | |
| Input for spring newsletters. EANA newsletter, 'Sea To The Green, will be published in March. Advocates for Calm Traffic (ACT) spring newsletter, 'The Norwalk Roundabout,' is in the works. | |
| Strategies for increasing membership discussed. | |
| Neighborhood values discussed regarding Affordable Housing initiatives that the city is forwarding. Concerns expressed by those in attendance of possible negative impact of bringing more affordable housing to Norwalk. Discussion of both positive and negative aspects. |
